The only work around for creating a using a coupon in IQ is to create a non-stock item and enter a neg 1 in the qty box at the sale screen.

This type of transaction invites abuse, theft and knockdowns. We need a solid discount code system imbedded into IQ.

Bounce back coupons work and they work rather well. I have submitted a suggestion for this thru the IQ suggestion URL. The response was an automated canned blurb.
