Verizon to Offer Contract-Free Postpaid Plans?

According to Engadget, there's a rumor that Verizon is on the cusp of announcing that customers bringing their own equipment to the table or who are willing to pay full price for the goods up front will be able to go contract-free on postpaid accounts.  However there will still be an activation fee and a credit check but you do not have to deal with ETF or contract extensions.  The rumor is the announcement will be made on the 21st of the month.
