Leap Asks FCC to Ban Verizon-Alltel Purchase
Date: Aug 12, 2008
Leap Wireless has asked the U.S. telecom regulator to refuse permission for the Verizon Wireless $28.1 billion plan to buy Alltel and become the No. 1 U.S. mobile service. Leap is against this acquisition because this would mean less competition and difficulties creating roaming agreements.
The agreement could leave Leap users with no service since Leap has agreements with both Verizon and Alltel. However, Verizon said it would honor its terms of any roaming agreement that it may have with Leap after the acquisition of Alltel.
