Economy Impacts Smartphone Sales Growth

According to a Gartner report on smartphone sales, consumers are buying and upgrading less and choosing the touch technology on enhanced phones rather than smartphones.  Smartphone sales have grew in North America, but smartphone sales are only a small portion of the entire mobile phone market.

Gartner reports smartphone unit sales in the second quarter of 2008 rose 15.7 percent in comparison with the year earlier period.  However the cellular handset market remained flat at 11 percent.
